  • « Un pays par saison », c'est le thème qu'a choisi Continuité pour illustrer comment notre patrimoine architectural, urbain, culturel et immatériel acquiert sa spécificité en s'ancrant dans un pays, sa nature et son climat. Tout d'abord, un portrait des saisons de nos ancêtres est brossé par le biais de témoignages de personnalités. Puis, Juan Torres et Marie Lessard, de l'Institut d'urbanisme de l'Université de Montréal, s'interrogent sur l'aménagement urbain en fonction des saisons. Le photographe Pierre Lahoud illustre l'évolution d'un même paysage au fil du temps et s'intéresse aux courses de canot.   • Piégée en Enfer, Nancy n´est pas vraiment du genre à accepter son sort. Bien décidée à s´en échapper, elle trouvera en Lucifer lui-même un allié de poids. Ils uniront leurs forces au cours d'un voyage sanglant peuplé de créatures maléfiques. EL Torres est un scénariste espagnol prolifique. Dans les années 1990, il anime quelques fanzines locaux, avant de s'orienter vers l'écriture. En 2000, il démarre la série Nancy in Hell (avec Juan José Ryp au dessin). Il fonde les éditions Sulaco et la revue Pulp dans laquelle il propose des BD et des nouvelles, en coédition avec des éditeurs américains, notamment, Alan Moore's Magic Words et Rogues. Depuis, El Torres est revenu avec Drums (avec Abel Garcia) et a lancé Nancy in Hell, dans une nouvelle série dessinée par Enrique Lorenzana, pour Image Comics. Juan-José Ryp, dessinateur autodidacte, commence sa carrière professionnelle chez Wet Comix, magazine espagnol versant dans l'érotisme. Sa première publication est Jeux de Filles qu'il poursuivra par la série GladyS&Monique et Ignominia (prochainement chez Tabou), autre chef-d´oeuvre de l'érotisme. Abandonnant l´érotisme pour le fantastique, il s´associe à El Torres pour donner naissance à Nancy in Hell. En 2010 il reprend les aventures de Wolverine pour Marvel.

  • This dissertation focuses on the calculation of transport coefficients in the matter created in a relativistic heavy-ion collision after chemical freeze-out. This matter can be well approximated using a pion gas out of equilibrium. We describe the theoretical framework needed to obtain the shear and bulk viscosities, the thermal and electrical conductivities and the flavor diffusion coefficients of a meson gas at low temperatures. To describe the interactions of the degrees of freedom, we use effective field theories with chiral and heavy quark symmetries. We subsequently introduce the unitarization methods in order to obtain a scattering amplitude that satisfies the unitarity condition exactly, then go on to calculate the transport properties of the low-temperature phase of quantum chromodynamics - the hadronic medium - which can be used in hydrodynamic simulations of a relativistic heavy-ion collision and its subsequent evolution. We show that the shear viscosity over entropy density exhibits a minimum in a phase transition by studying this coefficient in atomic Argon (around the liquid-gas phase transition) and in the linear sigma model in the limit of a large number of scalar fields (which presents a chiral phase transition). Finally, we provide an experimental method for estimating the bulk viscosity in relativistic heavy-ion collisions by performing correlations of the fluctuating components of the stress-energy tensor.

  • Despite the considerable amount of criticism that Vladimir Nabokov's literary legacy has produced since the sixties, the studies on his female characters are scarce, except the ones on Lolita. This volume delves into Nabokov's women from different perspectives and points of view. The contributions are from different parts of the world, some from prominent scholars. These Nabokovians study the gender issue in Nabokov's life and art, paying tribute to his women. The volume has two closely connected parts. In the first one, the reader can find biographical essays that discuss the role of the real women in Nabokov's life and how their love, support and suffering are reflected in his prose. The second part deals with Nabokov's women in his fiction. There is a discussion of the representation of female voices.

  • Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has transformed the educational scene and brought about a revolution of teaching methods and principles in the bilingual education environment. The major challenge in the implementation of a teacher education curriculum in CLIL is the integration of different teaching approaches to promote content and language mastery. What is certain is that there is no fixed model for CLIL and that for resources to be effective they have to be contextualized and motivating for both teachers and students. The four Cs (Content, Cognition, Communication and Culture) proposed by Coyle (1999) as framework for CLIL implementations find in drama a powerful meeting point to develop communicative skills and beyond. CLIL opens new possibilities for the implementation of drama in its multiple varieties: role-play, simulations, drama activities, educational drama and so on. This book proposes articles on the possibilities of drama as a challenging learning experience from primary to higher education.

The majority of these documents are unstructured: it is unrestricted text and has not been organized into traditional databases. Processing documents is therefore a perfunctory task, mostly due to a lack of standards. It has thus become extremely difficult to implement automatic text analysis tasks. Automatic Text Summarization (ATS), by condensing the text while maintaining relevant information, can help to process this ever-increasing, difficult-to-handle, mass of information. This book examines the motivations and different algorithms for ATS. The author presents the recent state of the art before describing the main problems of ATS, as well as the difficulties and solutions provided by the community. The book provides recent advances in ATS, as well as current applications and trends. The approaches are statistical, linguistic and symbolic. Several examples are also included in order to clarify the theoretical concepts.

    This book deals with applications in several areas of science and technology that make use of light which carries orbital angular momentum. In most practical scenarios, the angular momentum can be decomposed into two independent contributions: the spin angular momentum and the orbital angular momentum. The orbital contribution affords a fundamentally new degree of freedom, with fascinating and wide-spread applications. Unlike spin angular momentum, which is associated with the polarization of light, the orbital angular momentum arises as a consequence of the spatial distribution of the intensity and phase of an optical field, even down to the single photon limit. Researchers have begun to appreciate its implications for our understanding of the ways in which light and matter can interact, and its practical potential in different areas of science and technology.
